Artist Statement
Why I Make Art
I love creating art because you are able to make something that was not already made in the world. You just have to come up with an idea and you can bring it to life. If that wasn’t enough, everyone is able to do this, regardless of who they are or their skills. Some would argue that there are better artists than others, people who can make ‘better’ work than other people, but I would argue that some have just practiced longer, and are better able to transfer what they want to create to the page or canvas.

For the content of my work, art is usually used as an avenue for change. I have a lot of causes that matter to me, such as veganism, human rights, environmentalism, etc., so art is a way I can express my feelings about these to others. For my photography, I am more of a hunter rather than a farmer, but I would love to start bringing this into my photography as well.

Lastly, it also allows for a place of mindfulness. The artist can feel creative, in touch with themselves, and almost in a meditative state when working. This can help them learn more about themselves as well as relax and be alone in a healthy way.
What It Looks Like
I have always been engrossed by colours, ever since I was little. Colours all hold their own weight in an image and the world, and I feel like I have to have a certain amount of each when I create a work. This is often why my work comes off very bright and intense. My work also tends to appear as calm and happy because, even though I am often thinking about big issues in the world, I do not want the work to come off too confrontational. I want to invite people in to listen to what I have to say.
I do not want to relate myself to any movements in art history at the moment because it is too early to tell. I want to continue to grow and experiment with other techniques to see what really works for me.
