Musician Statement
Why I Make Music
I started playing piano at age four because my parents made me. I chose to continue playing because I learned that I love to make music. I love it because of how the way each song is a new challenge that you can solve. Your creativity also shines through your decisions regarding the style/feel of the piece, as well as how you go about learning it.

Music has also been important to me since I was young because when I listen to it, I always connect to it emotionally. When you play music, this can also happen; you can express your emotions through your playing, without using words.

Lastly, I love how music is accessible to everyone as every culture uses music in some way. I think, because of this, composition and creativity are some of the most important skills to foster in music so that students are able to express themselves as much as possible.

My Goals
I have many goals as a musician. My first is to finish my ARCT in piano. I am very close to finishing the Royal Conservatory of Music program, and I want that over with. This would also allow me to become a registered piano teacher, which is another aspiration of mine.
Another goal I have is to learn how to play all of the instruments well; I am slowly collecting them so that I have them available to practice. I think each instrument provides different challenges and opportunities so I would like to experience them all.
My last goal is to learn how to play jazz piano. I have always loved Jazz music but I was trained as a classical player so I find it very difficult to think in this way. I want to tone my transcribing abilities, as well as my improvisation; both are very foreign to me but I am actively working towards them.
